~The February Scholars of the Month were nominated by the Foreign Language Dept and are as follows:

Elizabeth Hastert- has been nominated for the senior high foreign language scholar for her commitment and continued success in learning Spanish. Elizabeth not only goes above and beyond the work that is asked of her, but has a true interest and curiosity in learning Spanish. Whether it is asking thoughtful and creative questions, helping her peers, or committing herself to speaking only in Spanish, she always perseveres and makes class more enjoyable for everyone.  Nominated by Señora Bender

Matthew Nguyen is an outstanding Spanish 3 student. He is extremely curious about all aspects of the language and cultures that we study and no detail escapes his attention. He is unafraid to ask questions to be certain that he fully understands all class material and readily participates both in English and in Spanish.  He works well with all of the other students in the class and is able and ready to help them. His demeanor has a large impact on the classroom, leading to an open and fun environment.  It is a privilege to work with Mateo. Nominated by Señor Fischer

Eva Bennion is an exceptional French 1 student. Eva excels in all aspects of French. She easily understands spoken French and responds quickly and appropriately to questions. She is careful to observe French rules of grammar creating intelligible written pieces that flow smoothly. Eva's conduct is exemplary. She is kind and willing to help others. Notably, she is a whiz with numbers in French, and none of her classmates can tell you the time in French faster! Nominated by Madame Li

Finn Rapoport has been outstanding in Spanish 1 this year.  He is a consistent participator and is involved in a very positive way.  His energy, humor, and enthusiasm are contagious.  He has a sharp grasp of the Spanish language and regularly asks insightful questions to better understand the vocabulary and the grammar.  He is not content with memorized catch-phrases, but really wants to understand what is going on in the language.  He has a remarkable ability to take new Spanish concepts and integrate them into his own speech and writing.  It's a privilege to have him in Spanish 1! Keith Beams

~The Enroll Now function of EnrollJeffco is now live.  This allows families to enter the EnrollJeffco system to select schools for next school year.  We ask that D’Evelyn families with current students enter the system to make selections for next year.

~Get Involved. Serve on a Curriculum Evaluation Committee

At our December meeting, we had a training on Hiring committees. We learned that the hiring process requires a time commitment of about 4-6 hours. In order to serve you must understand and support the school philosophy, attend a training and want to be involved and assist in the process. Hiring priorities for candidates include being a philosophical match (so candidate must believe in the D’Evelyn philosophy), working in a participatory environment, and being a highly qualified teacher.

At our next meeting on February 12 at 5:30 pm in the library, Steering will present a training regarding the curriculum evaluation process. The opportunity to serve on a curriculum evaluation committee is open to parents of D’Evelyn students, but to be eligible, you must first attend this training.

Immediately following the Accountability Committee meeting, Steering will host their second Steering Committee Candidate Training geared toward anyone who wants to learn more about D'Evelyn's governance model. Please also plan to attend if you intend to apply for a Steering Committee position.

We hope to see you there!
