~Get Involved. Serve on a Curriculum Evaluation Committee

At our December meeting, we had a training on Hiring committees. We learned that the hiring process requires a time commitment of about 4-6 hours To serve you must understand and support the school philosophy, attend a training and want to be involved and assist in the process. Hiring priorities for candidates include being a philosophical match (so candidate must believe in the D’Evelyn philosophy), working in a participatory environment, and being a highly qualified teacher.

At our next meeting on February 12 at 5:30 pm in the library, Steering will present a training regarding the curriculum evaluation process. The opportunity to serve on a curriculum evaluation committee is open to parents of D’Evelyn students, but to be eligible, you must first attend this training.

Immediately following the Accountability Committee meeting, Steering will host their second Steering Committee Candidate Training geared toward anyone who wants to learn more about D'Evelyn's governance model. Please also plan to attend if you intend to apply for a Steering Committee position.

We hope to see you there!

~The January Student Scholars of the Month are as follows:

Julia Narva has shown tremendous growth in English class since the beginning of the school year. Julia came to D'Evelyn without a strong grammar background, then applied herself so diligently in the parts of speech unit that she emerged a grammar ninja! Julia is meticulous in her work and in her writing, and day after day strives to put forth her best effort. Her positive attitude and attention to detail are a shining example to her peers—Jennifer Ford

Liam Smith is a dream student to work with.  Not only is he punctual with assignments, but he constantly strives to improve himself.  He always has his hand up, eager to participate, and he can always be counted on to look for a new idea and to open to new ideas. - Lynne Hobbs

Not only is Kayla Erickson extraordinarily gifted in reading and interpreting classic literature, she also possesses a genuine interest and passion for it. Kayla does not view the readings as a class requirement but as an opportunity to explore new and/or controversial ideas, and what's most refreshing about her passion is that she's not afraid to share it with her peers and her teachers. Put simply: Kayla enthusiastically adds another layer of insight and complexity to the English class that is admirable and inspiring. - Steve Falconi

I nominate 9th grader Julian Castro for Student of the Month. Playing both soccer in the fall and basketball this winter, Julian still works hard and dedicates a great deal of time and effort to his studies. He participates often in class and is always thinking deeply about what we've read. He adds to our discussions of novels and is a role model for his peers. Julian is honest, trustworthy and an all-around awesome young man. It is a privilege to be his teacher. - Kristine Sweney

~The Enroll Now function of EnrollJeffco is now live.  This allows families to enter the EnrollJeffco system to select schools for next school year.  We ask that D’Evelyn families with current students enter the system to make selections for next year.

However, it is especially important that all families with students interested in attending D’Evelyn next year for the first time in grades 7, 8, or 9, enter the system and submit their child’s name for potential enrollment.  This includes families with students in all priority groups, including students finishing sixth grade at Dennison Elementary and students with older siblings already attending D’Evelyn.

The deadline for completing your enrollment declarations and requests in EnrollJeffco is Friday, February 8th.  After that day, D’Evelyn will not be able to add any students to their lottery for the first round of choice enrollment.

Jeffco Connect credentials will be your log in.  Please make sure your log in works and review and update emergency contact information.  Call Susan Brown in counseling if you need assistance with Jeffco Connect log in.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
